The countdown to the EURO 08 was celebrated with music by the “Khevenhüller” band, Prosecco, soft drinks and a lottery. The party took place near the countdown clock in Alter Platz that shows the remaining time until the kick-off for the European Football Championship. The Host City Office provided a wealth of information and there was also a stand for people to apply as volunteers.
Nearly the entire city senate, led by Mayor Harald Scheucher, chairman of the OC Manfred Pock, Jörg Schretter, EURO coordinator of Carinthia, Dr. Thomas Partl, president of the Carinthian Football Association, many athletes, and hundreds of citizens from Klagenfurt enjoyed the party.
Mayor Harald Scheucher welcomed the crowd and underlined that the capital of Carinthia was eagerly awaiting this grand party of sports and football. “We will be good hosts and do everything to present ourselves in the best possible way to our guests. Join us in the preparations for this unique event”, the Mayor said.
DI Manfred Pock, chairman of the Organising Committee, wishes with all his heart for “games of friendship in Klagenfurt; preparations are under way and excellent”.
Three tickets for the matches in Klagenfurt and original championship balls were given away in a lottery. The musicians also tried their luck and filled in lottery cards during their breaks – two of them were lucky and won tickets.
