In June 2008 football will also be the theme in culture. Therefore, Klagenfurt's City Gallery is offering a special prize, the "Soccer Arts -Promotion of the Arts Prize 2008". The City Arkaden shopping centre acts as a partner. This project intends to encourage in particular talented youngsters, thus artists aged 35 and under have been asked to submit their works.

Painters, sculptors and photographers will be competing for prize money of up to €3,000 and a jury of renowned art experts from across Austria will decide on the winners. Jury members are: Dr. Herfried Thaler (Department of Art History, Nordico Linz), Dr. Eleonora Louis (Vice-Director of the Museum of Modern Art Salzburg), Dr. Günther Dankl (Curator of the Modern Gallery at the Tyrolean Provincial Museum), Mag. Max Aufischer (Head of Culture Awareness Styria) and Mag. Christine Wetzlinger (Art Historian at the Museum of Modern Art Carinthia).
All the works that make the final shortlist will be displayed in the City Arkaden shopping centre and in the "Living Studio" of Klagenfurt's City Gallery from 5th until 27th June 2008.

According to City Arkaden manager Tanja Lewin, "Art in the Shopping Center" constitutes a new and interesting possibility to combine entertainment and art.
"Culture is meeting and movement - following this motto, the supplementary offer during the EURO will enthral (football) visitors and locals alike", says culture adviser and city councillor Albert Gunzer happily.
