28,000 fans from Croatia and 15,000 German fans expected - exchange offices installed in Klagenfurt for the weekend. At the daily EURO press conference at the Host City Media Centre Klagenfurt, Carinthian Governor Jörg Haider, Mayor Harald Scheucher, Regional Police Commander Wolfang Rauchegger and Public Safety Director Albert Slamanig all agreed that the situation before the second EURO match in Klagenfurt was highly positive. 28,000 fans from Croatia and 15,000 fans from Germany are expected in Klagenfurt today.
Governor Haider and Police Commander Rauchegger thanked the media for the positive coverage of Klagenfurt over the past few days. "The local people have warmed to the EURO and are finally mingling with the fans", Haider said. The Governor reported that the Croatian fan camp in Pörtschach is very popular. 10,000 Croats are expected to come to Pörtschach today. According to UEFA, 66 buses from Germany and 69 from Croatia will arrive in Klagenfurt.
The Governor dispelled rumours that English hooligans had come to Klagenfurt. "80 people from England are spending one week of holidays in Carinthia and they were very surprised to be called hooligans", he said.
Mayor Scheucher announced that the turf in the stadium was still in excellent shape, despite the rain. "Conditions will definitely be better than at yesterday's match between Switzerland and Turkey." He continued that there would be no problems with regard to parking. The original concept will apply, and no alternative plans would be needed. What will be new on the weekend, are exchange offices that will be installed on the weekend so that Croatian and Polish fans will be able to exchange their money into euros.
Rauchegger said that everything was quiet. 28,000 fans from Croatia and 15,000 fans from Germany are expected to pour into Klagenfurt today. 3,300 policemen will be on duty, among them 400 Germans. The German policemen will patrol the city centre, just as they did during the first EURO match. Slamanig reported that Croatian President Stipe Mesic and Ivo Sanader would not come to Klagenfurt, while UEFA President Michel Platini will definitely be coming.
