Party mood in Klagenfurt prolonged
The European Football Championship is coming to an end for Klagenfurt. The decisive encounter between Poland and Croatia takes place on Monday; and at the routine media briefing at the HCMC everybody agreed that Klagenfurt was best prepared for the match.
Mayor Harald Scheucher reported that about 20,000 fans from Poland and Croatia are expected. It is important for the fans that the match will be transmitted live from the Klagenfurt stadium to the Fan Zone on the Exhibition Grounds. "In the Neuer Platz Fan Zone, the match Austria against Germany will be shown live", said Scheucher. There is news with regard to the Fan Zone on the Exhibition Grounds. The Fan Zone will be closed on Tuesday, but the catering service will remain intact. "The concerts by Christina Stürmer on 28 June and by Sunrise Avenue on 29 June will, however, be held on the stage at the Exhibition Grounds." The Fan Zone in Neuer Platz will be made more comfortable, as of next Tuesday there will be benches in this area.
The province of Carinthia was represented by the deputy director of the Regional Office of the Carinthian Government, Dr. Dieter Platzer. Platzer reported that Klagenfurt and Carinthia were being awarded yet another distinction by the Federal Ministry of the Environment: "the Green Ball for the most climate-friendly traffic solution".
There were no incidents to report from the police side; in Klagenfurt the EURO continues to be peaceful. "All visitors to the Fan Zones were disciplined, we were even able to put some policemen off duty", said Regional Police Commander Wolfgang Rauchegger. And Carinthia has just beaten the record in sick-leaves! "We have reached an all-time low with as few as 16 policemen on sick-leave", the Regional Police Commander reported.
The statement of Public Safety Director Albert Slamanig was also positive. "We will succeed in continuing the great party mood in Klagenfurt on Monday, too", he said.
