Host city prepared for the final match
A relaxed atmosphere prevails before the final match of the EURO group round between Croatia and Poland in Klagenfurt. This was today's message from Governor Jörg Haider, Klagenfurt's Mayor Harald Scheucher, Regional Police Commander Wolfgang Rauchegger and Public Safety Director Albert Slamanig at the EURO press conference at the Host City Media Centre Klagenfurt.
The Governor expressed his satisfaction about the 5-euro voucher campaign organised by the city of Klagenfurt and the province. "It has met with great approval and made the population of Klagenfurt join in the EURO party." Haider said that the many visits to the Bavarian beer tent in Europapark proved that the locals are accepting the EURO. The Governor continued that, with the benefit of hindsight, many citizens of the Carinthian capital regretted that they had believed the negative media coverage before the EURO.
In addition to the football fans, the various initiatives set by companies are further positive proof for the Governor and beneficial for Carinthia's image campaign. "Thanks to Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank, 1,800 opinion leaders got to know the area around Lake Wörthersee". Some hundred guests came on the initiative of TUI-Fly, the Falkensteiner group and Entwicklungsagentur Kärnten (EAK).
Mayor Scheucher announced that the tried and tested security concept that was developed for the EURO matches in Klagenfurt would be taken over by Vienna for tonight's prestige duel between Austria and Germany. As far as tonight's match in Klagenfurt is concerned, the Mayor is looking forward to peaceful party mood in the Fan Zones and the Fan Mile.
Regional Police Commander Rauchegger reported that 40,000 people from Croatia and 21,000 fans from Poland were expected in Klagenfurt today. There were no noteworthy incidents on Sunday; penalties had to be inflicted only for five administrative offences. The police task force for today's match will be as strong as on the days of the first two matches.
Public Safety Director Slamanig said that the Croatian Minister of Transport and a delegation of Slovene politicians, including the Sport Minister and two Secretaries of State, had announced their visit.
