The Austrian Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the host regions, the host cities and the "siren and flashing light" organisations are doing everything possible to ensure all the games will be safe, following the standard of the World Cup 2006 in Germany.
The Ministry of the Interior has developed a national security concept for "civil protection by the police".
As far as general protection is concerned, a master plan has been defined detailing the activities and responsibilities of the action forces. All contingencies have been carefully analysed and planned for - ranging from prevention measures and rescue for major crowd disaster or fire, to coping with technical failure or accidents nearby, right down to the individual tasks of helping the lost or tracing missing people.
The staff structures have been defined; rooms for the security forces have been determined and prepared.
The security in and around the stadium must be ensured, measures with regard to the fan zones and the city centre must be taken and the transport routes must be kept free from jams.
It goes without saying that the Klagenfurt municipal fire brigade and the volunteer fire services across the city will be on call for this large scale operation.
The Red Cross in Carinthia will increase its staff numbers by 30 percent for the time of the European Championship.
Regular services in the hospitals will be increased and duty staff will be on emergency call, while the numbers of emergency staff will be increased.
Ambulance and sanitary services will be located in and near the stadium and in the fan zone on the exhibition grounds.
A mobile health command with emergency doctors and paramedics will be on duty for the city centre and the fan mile.
Head of the task group responsible for safety and security (Organisation committee) is the commander of the municipal fire brigade, chief Josef Pobegen.
