It is the most remarkable attraction Klagenfurt has to offer: A huge lake of breath-taking beauty, a place to bathe where the water you swim in is of drinking water quality and behind it all an astoundingly beautiful high mountain backdrop.  Our lake is the number one attraction not only for all our thousands of visitors, but also for the people of the city itself - and this is true whatever the season. Swimming or plunging into its waters are irresistible in summer; there is no finer place for a long walk or jog in autumn and spring than along its shores and when the temperature sinks far enough below zero in winter it is transformed into Europe's biggest ice rink.

There are no better beaches anywhere for those who love and demand an environment of the finest when they sun themselves or take a dip and it is an amazing fact that this pure Alpine water is of drinking water quality. There is no finer place to swim, especially when cooling off after a session on the beach volleyball facilities.

The lake is not only for swimmers. Superb restaurants are dotted along its shores and what wonderful places they are for a fine meal or quiet drink. And then there is the superbly restored Loretto Castle on the lake peninsula of the same name.
Loretto Castle was purchased by the city, carefully restored and turned into a marvellous place to relax. A bistro found a natural place on the ground floor of the castle, and right next to it there is a restaurant looking out onto the lake.

Also on the lake shore: the Wörthersee lake-side stage, it is the only one of its kind in Austria where both the audience and the performance are entirely out over the water. Theatre lovers enjoy the finest musicals and shows here in the magnificent Wörthersee setting with its dramatic mountain backdrop.

There is also a superb leisure area, the gigantic Europapark, directly on the shore where you can do various sports, such as jogging and skating in the Skater Park with its daring halfpipe, beach volleyball and baseball. If it's fun, we've got it.
